Daylight Savings Style

Daylight Savings Time returns on March 9th. March 9th? Isn't that a little early? Everything's early this year, including Easter. I just hope the weather cooperates!

In any case, most of us know the saying: "Spring ahead." Make sure that you move your clockBeautiful_in_blue_diamondaccent_w_3s and watches ahead one hour at 2 AM on March 9th. I'm going to start a few hours early so that I can set all seven of my watches ahead. Yep, I have a watch for each day of the week! I'm a watch fanatic. I wouldn't mind wearing a different watch each day of the month, and from what I've seen over at HolstedJewelers, doing that looks like a real possibility. The watch above is just one example.

All of these watches are affordable, and they're available at HolstedJewelers.com.

Happy Daylight Savings!

Acquamarine: The March Birthstone

The word acquamarine makes me think of crusing along calm seas on a luxurious yacht. No wonder this birthstone is known as the "gem of the sea." Summer_rain_dangle_earrings_cropp_4

Part of the beryl family of gems, acquamarine is usually greenish-blue to pale blue in color. It is a very clear stone and, when worn as jewelry, it resembles droplets of water from a Carribean sea. Ancient lore has it keeping sailors from harm while at sea, relieving headaches and other ailments and helping to restore harmony to couples with relatioFabulous_faux_acqua_ring_2nship problems.  Acquamarine rates an 8 on the Moh's Hardness Scale, making it a great stone for everyday jewelry.

Holsted Jewelers has a beautiful high-end acquamarine set, as well as some great affordable alternatives. Check them out here.

Next month: Diamonds!

Make Time For Spring Color

The other day I looked at Pantone's Spring 2008 Color Report. Here's what I saw:

Pantone_spring_08_color_chart0001_3Not sure about the blue but, overall, a nice pallette of bright  colors. You should be seeing all of these colors at clothing stores this Spring.

I'm a little meticulous when it comes to my watch matching my outfits.  With all the bright colors on the way I think my best choice this Spring would be an interchangeable watch. With an interchangeable watch I'll get the functionality of time as we66_combination_watch_set_2ll as the style that comes from wearing beautiful jewelry.

How about a watch you can wear 66 different ways? Holsted Jewelers has a watch you  can do exactly that with. With 6 bands and 11 bezels, you'll have enough looks to complement the Pantone colors and then some!

Are 66 different looks too much for you? Click here for more interchangeable watch ideas.

Baubles For Fall

Now that New York Fashion Week Fall 08 is over I'm thinking back to the photos I saw from all the shows in and around The Tents. Several designers incorporated jewelry in their shows, most noticiably big, chunky jewelry:

Oscar De La Renta

Tracy Reese

Badgley Mischka

Dennis Basso

Ports 1961

The Ports 1961 piece is especially interesting. At first glance, it looks like a necklace made from threading a scarf through a wooden bracelet. It's not of course, but wouldn't that be an interesting jewelry trend?

You can see all the photos from Fashion Week at Coutorture.com. Enjoy!

Fashion Moment: A Look At NY Fashion Week

In case youNa_be_by_victorya_hong_2 didn't know it ladies, here in New York City it's Fashion Week! Yours truly was lucky enough to attend one of the shows on Friday: Na-be by Victorya Hong.

It was pouring outside but I made my way down to the Altman Building on West 18th St and stood in a really long line waiting to get inside. After minutes of waiting, a few other bloggers and I were allowed to go to the front ot the line. There was more waiting inside, but we finally were able to check in and head to our seats to see Victorya Hong's Fall 2008 Collection.

Victorya Hong was a contestant on this past season's Project Runway. A very talented designer, she calls herself a child of the '80s and it was this decade that inspired her new collection. The day looks in the collection had an overall menswear feel to them and the dressy looks brought to mind Jennifer Beals in Flashdance. The looks were updated, however, nicely cut with clean lines.

As a thank you, designers showing their collections during Fashion Week usually hand out gift bags to attendees.  At past shows I've received things like cosmetics and hand creams. For some reason, Victorya decided that her gift bag would be filled mostly with edible treats: Godiva Chocolates, mints, an energy drink and a cookie in the shape of a ladies boot were among the items she handed out. Tasty treats, yes, but I wouldn't have minded trading in that boot cookie for a bottle of nail polish!

I won't be attending any other shows this week; Victorya's was it. But don't be surprised if I'll have a few more reports from The Tents at the next Fashion Week in September!
