Since Holsted Jewelers entered the blogosphere a few months ago we've gotten to know some very cool people who love accessories, beauty, fashion and jewelry just as much as we do. One of those people is Jill Sherman, who maintains a blog about all the latest trends in these areas. Jill seems to be able to spot trends as easy as the rest of us breathe and she can find evidence of a designer's ideas in just about anything: from birds and insects, to flowers and cathedral ceilings.
Until recently she called her very successful blog Trendinista. However, it seems as if that success has necessitated a name change, because it is now called Trend de la Creme. Now how cool is that? I love it!

Last month during Fashion Week I found out about this cool new fashion site called Votour. I know what you're asking ladies: "Why do we need another fashion site?" I asked myself the same question. There are lots of great sites out there that cover fashion from head-to-toe.
Votour's different, however. At Votour you're not just a spectator, looking at and voting on your favorite looks. Other users can look at and vote on your looks. That's right. When you join the site you have the opportunity to show off your self-expression by uploading pictures of yourself wearing your favorite outfits.
Showing off your self-expression is only the beginning. The developers of the site have much more planned. Their goal is to address all creative aspects of the fashion industry, including jewelry. I think it's great. Pay them a visit when you get the chance!

I'm still thinking about the Spring color report I saw a few weeks ago with all its bold, bright hues. I know there are some of you out there for whom bigger, bolder and brighter is not an option this season. That doesn't mean you can't be on trend. The other day I looked at Pantone's Spring 2008 Color Report. Here's what I saw:
Not sure about the blue but, overall, a nice pallette of bright colors. You should be seeing all of these colors at clothing stores this Spring.
I'm a little meticulous when it comes to my watch matching my outfits. With all the bright colors on the way I think my best choice this Spring would be an interchangeable watch. With an interchangeable watch I'll get the functionality of time as we

Now that New York Fashion Week Fall 08 is over I'm thinking back to the photos I saw from all the shows in and around The Tents. Several designers incorporated jewelry in their shows, most noticiably big, chunky jewelry:
The Ports 1961 piece is especially interesting. At first glance, it looks like a necklace made from threading a scarf through a wooden bracelet. It's not of course, but wouldn't that be an interesting jewelry trend?

In case you
didn't know it ladies, here in New York City it's Fashion Week! Yours truly was lucky enough to attend one of the shows on Friday: Na-be by Victorya Hong.
It was pouring outside but I made my way down to the Altman Building on West 18th St and stood in a really long line waiting to get inside. After minutes of waiting, a few other bloggers and I were allowed to go to the front ot the line. There was more waiting inside, but we finally were able to check in and head to our seats to see Victorya Hong's Fall 2008 Collection.
Victorya Hong was a contestant on this past season's Project Runway. A very talented designer, she calls herself a child of the '80s and it was this decade that inspired her new collection. The day looks in the collection had an overall menswear feel to them and the dressy looks brought to mind Jennifer Beals in Flashdance. The looks were updated, however, nicely cut with clean lines.
As a thank you, designers showing their collections during Fashion Week usually hand out gift bags to attendees. At past shows I've received things like cosmetics and hand creams. For some reason, Victorya decided that her gift bag would be filled mostly with edible treats: Godiva Chocolates, mints, an energy drink and a cookie in the shape of a ladies boot were among the items she handed out. Tasty treats, yes, but I wouldn't have minded trading in that boot cookie for a bottle of nail polish!
I won't be attending any other shows this week; Victorya's was it. But don't be surprised if I'll have a few more reports from The Tents at the next Fashion Week in September!
